DENNIS GREEN (Additional Lyrics) met Howard Ashman in 1975, shortly after moving to New York. He quickly convinced Mr. Ashman to build a book around songs he had written for a proposed musical version of The Tempest in which members of a present-day family find themselves shipwrecked inside the fantastical world of Shakespeare’s comedy. The result (with music by Marsha Malamet) was Dreamstuff, Mr. Ashman’s first musical in New York. A few years later, Mr. Green contributed some lyrics to God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater at Mr. Ashman’s request. Although he wrote lyrics for several other musical projects, Mr. Green eventually moved on to a successful career in graduate education at Columbia University. He is proud to have worked with Mr. Ashman and Mr. Menken, two of the greatest theatrical talents of his generation, and is thrilled to see this early work brought back to life on the City Center stage.
