David Zippel

David Zippel, lyricist for THE GOODBYE GIRL. He wrote the lyrics for CITY OF ANGELS, with music by
Cy Coleman and book by Larry Gelbart, for which he received the 1990 Tony, NY Drama Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards.

With Marvin Hamlisch, he has written songs for the films FRANKIE AND JOHNNY and MISSING PIECES, and the text to his symphonic suite ANATOMY OF PEACE. With Wally Harper, he wrote numerous songs for Barbara Cook. A revue of his songs entitled IT S BETTER WITH A BAND played Off-Broadway and in London s West End.

He contributed lyrics to the revues A& MY NAME IS ALICE DIAMONDS and, with Doug Katsaros, wrote the musical JUST SO. With Jonathan Sheffer and Joe Leonardo, he wrote GOING HOLLYWOOD, a musical adaptation of Kaufman and Hart s ONCE IN A LIFETIME.

David received a Golden Globe Award nomination for best original song for a motion picture in 1995, for
FAR LONGER THAN FOREVER; Academy Award nomination (with Alan Menken), best song, and Golden Globe Award nomination (with Menken), best original song for a motion picture, both 1997, for GO THE DISTANCE; Film and Television Music Award, American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Award, top box office film, 1997, for HERCULES; Film and Television Music Award for top television series (with Michael Skloff) 1998 and 1999, for VERONICA'S CLOSET. He also won awards for the animated feature (with Matthew Wilder and Jerry Goldsmith), 1998, for MULAN, and Golden Globe nomination (with Wilder) for the song Reflection (1998) and Grammy nomination (with Wilder) for the song True to Your Heart (1999). He wrote lyrics for the animated film, TARZAN, 1999 and contributed music to the 2000 film, GET YOUR STUFF.
