D’Artagnan heads for Paris, fulfils his dream of joining the King’s Musketeers and is fiercely loyal to King Louis XIV. Ten years later, Aramis, now the Bishop of Vannes, discovers Louis’ twin brother Philippe imprisoned in the Bastille and, when he succeeds in freeing Philippe and installing him on the throne in Louis’ place, D’Artagnan is forced to weigh his loyalty to the Musketeers against his fidelity to the King. Ultimately, his conscience guides him, Philippe is freed, has his Iron Mask removed and Louis is deposed and left to ponder his fate.
