KEVIN DEL AGUILA is an acclaimed actor, writer and director in New York City. He is an Emmy Award-winning writer of the animated PBS show PEG + CAT, the book-writer of the hit Off-Broadway musical ALTAR BOYZ (New York Outer Critics Circle Award, Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk Award nominations), and recipient of the Heideman Award for his play THE GREEKEST OF TRAGEDIES (Actors Theatre of Louisville). Other works include his middle-aged superhero musical THE ASTONISHING RETURN OF THE PROTAGONISTS! (2013 NAMT Festival), A TOUCH OF RIGOR MORTIS (NY Fringe), and his stage adaptations of the DreamWorks film MADAGASCAR and Nickelodeon's STORYTIME LIVE, both of which toured nationally and played engagements at Radio City Music Hall. As a book-writer and lyricist, Kevin has been commissioned to write many stage adaptations of children's books for Theatreworks USA that have premiered Off-Broadway including CLICK CLACK MOO (Lortel nomination for Best Musical and Drama Desk Award Nomination for Kevin's lyrics) and SKIPPYJON JONES (Lortel Award Nomination). Kevin has written for several children's television shows including PEG + CAT (PBS), HENRY HUGGLEMONSTER (DisneyJr.), ZACK AND QUACK (NickJr.), and THE WONDER PETS (NickJr.), and has collaborated on many film projects including the teen comedy BAND DORKS and the romantic comedy CUPIDITY. Kevin has also had the privilege to write and direct one of the New York Philharmonic's famed YOUNG PEOPLE'S CONCERTS at Lincoln Center.
As a director, Kevin has staged Lincoln Center Theater's annual CELEBRATION OF STUDENT SONGS since 2008 and helmed the world premieres of new musicals SEE ROCK CITY AND OTHER DESTINATIONS, POOLBOY, and Kirsten Childs' FUNKED UP FAIRY TALES for William Finn's musical theater lab at Barrington Stage in Massachusetts. He has directed many productions for Theatreworks USA including national tours of DUCK FOR PRESIDENT, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, CHARLOTTE’S WEB, and FLY GUY, as well as the Off-Broadway productions of IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE at the Lucille Lortel Theatre and his own adaptation of THE VELVETEEN RABBIT at the DR2.
Kevin has directed and acted in several productions of his own plays, including his comedy 6 STORY BUILDING, which took the top award for Overall Production at the New York Fringe Festival, and NUMBER ONE: A POLLOCK PAINTING, excerpts of which have been published in the book Such Desperate Joy: Imagining Jackson Pollock. As an actor/writer/director, Kevin pulled a theatrical ‘hat trick’ in 2006 by working in each discipline on three separate productions running simultaneously Off-Broadway: as an actor in the revival of JACQUES BREL, director of IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE at the Lucille Lortel, and as the writer of ALTAR BOYZ.
As an actor, Kevin has had guest appearances on television (LAW & ORDER: SVU) and can be heard as a singing troll in the Disney blockbuster FROZEN as well as various characters in the animated PBS show PEG + CAT. Kevin has been part of the original Broadway casts of PETER AND THE STARCATCHER (as Smee) and ROCKY, and has performed in a myriad of Off-Broadway productions including LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST at The Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park, PETER AND THE STARCATCHER at New York Theater Workshop, the 2006 revival of JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE & WELL..., A CHRISTMAS CAROL, THE BIG BANG, BLACK RUSSIAN, AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS and ROCKET TO THE MOON, as well as workshop productions of BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON for Center Theatre Group and UP HERE for The Roundabout Theater Company. His regional theater credits include THE BAKER'S WIFE at both The Papermill Playhouse in New Jersey and Goodspeed Musicals in Connecticut, ROMEO AND JULIET at the Pittsburgh Public Theater, MY FAIR LADY at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY at the Florida Studio Theatre, THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF AMERICA (ABRIDGED) at the Mill Mountain Theatre in Virginia, THE MERCHANT OF VENICE at American Players Theatre in Wisconsin, and RENZEVOUS WITH REALITY and CYRANO DE BERGERAC at The Wilma and Walnut Street Theatres in Philadelphia. He appears in the films THE FUZZ, CLYDE, and the aptly-named UNTITLED SHORT.
Kevin holds a BFA from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and an MFA from Temple University in Philadelphia. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild, the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, and Actors’ Equity.
