Papa said you'd forgive us, Grandfather, and take us all back to the garden.
CAIN
We're not going back to the garden, Abel.
ABEL

CAIN
There is no garden. Not for us.
(to FATHER)

FATHER
You must have faith in me, Cain.
CAIN

(another thought occurs to him)
And why did you come now? To stop us from leaving?
FATHER
I'm here to keep you safe.
CAIN
I don't need you to keep me safe.

NOAH
Yonah, go inside.
(YONAH goes. NOAH takes JAPHETH to one side, out of earshot of the rest of the FAMILY.)
Japheth, what you have done is very cruel to that poor girl. You know she cannot come with us.
JAPHETH
She is coming with us.
NOAH
You know Father's commandment. The race of Cain must all be destroyed.
JAPHETH
Yonah's been with us all our lives. You love her, too.
NOAH
We have no choice.
JAPHETH
There's always a choice.
(JAPHETH runs off towards the ark.)
NOAH
Japheth!
MAMA
Papa, maybe if you asked God...
NOAH
His will is clear. I don't want to discuss it anymore.

YONAH
Don't try to stop me, Japheth. You know I have to leave.
JAPHETH
Yonah, listen. I've been up on the ark, looking around. There's a little hold up near the bow, where you can hide till the rain's over. I'll bring you food and visit whenever it's safe.
YONAH
No, Japheth, it's wrong.
JAPHETH
I'm not giving you up.
YONAH
You can't hide me on the ark forever. What happens when your father finds out? When God finds out?
JAPHETH
I don't care.

Shem! If you lay a hand on her, I'll kill you.

(SHEM moves to YONAH and grabs her.)
JAPHETH

(JAPHETH runs towards SHEM, but before he can get anywhere near him, NOAH steps into his path, the staff of Adam in his hand.)
