Inspiration
All In Love is a musical adaptation of Richard Brinsley Sheridan's play The Rivals. Known as one of the funniest "comedy of manners" plays ever written, it satirized the blue blood aristocrats of the late 1700s. Lyricist and book writer Bruce Geller united with composer Jacques Urbont to reinvigorate the piece almost 200 years after its original showing.
Productions
All In Love opened Off-Broadway on November 10, 1961 at the Martinique Theatre. The original cast included Dom DeLuise as Bob Acres and Charles Kimbrough as Bag. The musical closed March 11, 1962, after 141 performances.
Trivia
- After writing All In Love, bookwriter-lyricist Bruce Geller created the hit TV series Mission: Impossible. Coincidentally, melodies from the musical were occasionally used as background music for the TV show.
