Goldilocks And The Three Bears is based on the common fairytale of "Goldilocks and The Three Bears", sometimes referred to as "The Story of the Three Bears" or just "Goldilocks". Though passed down for at least two centuries via oral tradition, the written version of the story that is most often referenced was published by British poet and author Robert Southey in 1837.
Singapore Repertory Theatre commissioned the noted British songwriting team George Stiles and Anthony Drewe to adapt the fairytale for the stage.
Productions

Goldilocks And The Three Bears premiered at Singapore Repertory Theatre in 2013 where it ran from March 8th until April 21st. It was presented by SRT s The Little Theatre. The cast featured Dwayne Tan, Mina Ellen Kaye, Aaron Khaled, Kristy Griffin and Jejie Esguerra.
The show was then produced in Malaysia at PJ Live Arts in May 2013.
Cultural Influence
- Stiles and Drewe are a prolific and well-known writing team. Their work includes Just So, Honk! and the Broadway and UK smash Mary Poppins.
- Goldilocks And The Three Bears is the second installment in The Little Company Trio-Series at Singapore Repertory Theatre. The first installment was Stiles and Drewe s The Three Little Pigs, which enjoyed a sold out run in 2012.
- Goldilocks And The Three Bears is a ubiquitous fairytale in Western culture and has been adapted and referenced in a variety of media. Notably, both Walt Disney and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer released animated versions and an episode of The Simpsons puts a unique spin on the tale.Â
Trivia
- In early versions of the fairy tale, The Three Bears, the intruder (Goldilocks) is sometimes a fox or an old woman. It was only later, as the story evolved, that the intruder became a golden haired child.
- George Stiles and Anthony Drewe met at Exeter University, where they began as rivals.
