Five Guys Named Moe to open in new London theatre
Five Guys Named Moe to open in new London theatre
Udderbelly Productions in association with Cameron Mackintosh will present Five Guys Named Moe in a new temporary theatre on Marble Arch in central London. The show will open on 29th August and will run until 25th November 2017. The venue, a new pop-up theatre that has been specifically designed for the production, will echo the jazz bars of 1940s New Orleans and the action will take place in and around the theatre pre and post performance.
First seen at Theatre Royal Stratford East in 1990 from where it subsequently transferred to the West End, running for 6 years and winning the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment, Five Guys Named Moe tells the story of Nomax. Newly single and broke, Nomax finds solace in Five Guys (Big Moe, Four Eyed Moe, Eat Moe, Know Moe and Little Moe), who magically appear to rouse him from his misfortunes with a whole lot of soul, music and infectious energy!
The London production will be directed by Clarke Peters with original choreography by Andrew Wright (Half a Sixpence and Singin’ in the Rain, Guys & Dolls), set and costume design by takis (Side Show, In The Heights, Hairspray, The Good Person of Sichuan), lighting design by Philip Gladwell (The James Plays, Cymbeline, Trainspotting, After Miss Julie, Hairspray) and sound design by Ben Harrison (Cabaret, Dreamboats and Petticoats, Dancing in the Streets, The King & I, Starlight Express, Blood Brothers, Soul Sister).
Five Guys Named Moe is packed with the irresistible hits and melodies of jazz legend Louis Jordan, including Early In The Morning, Choo Choo Ch’Boogie and Saturday Night Fish Fry, plus many more. Often referred to as one of the original ‘jukebox musicals’, the musical’s feel-good, uplifting and carefree attitude is perfect for the intimate, immersive and informal nature of a non-conventional theatre space such as a Spiegeltent.
