SUSANA TUBERT's extensive background as a theatre director includes: the recent Off-Broadway premiere at the Directors' Company of "Bad Girls" by award winning author, Joyce Carol Oates; the world premiere of the critically acclaimed musical, "Four Guys Named Jose & and Una Mujer Named Maria!" co-produced Off-Broadway by Enrique Iglesias and Dasha Epstein and its subsequent run at the Actors' Playhouse in Miami, Florida; "Santa Concepcion" at the Joseph Papp Public Theatre; "Real Women Have Curves" at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center and at the Spanish Repertory Theatre; "Barrio Babies" at Denver Center Theatre; "Knee Desires the Dirt" at the Women's Project.
Ms. Tubert's additional directorial credits include regional productions at: South Coast Rep, McCarter Theatre, Alliance Theater, Actors' Theatre of Louisville, Hartford Stage, Sundance Institute, Victory Gardens, Seattle Rep, Gala Hispanic Theatre, and Seattle's Multicultural Theatre. In NYC, her work has also been seen at Lincoln Center Institute, the Women's Project, Rattlestick Theatre, the National Alliance for Musical Theatre Conference, Playwright's Horizon's Theatre School, Young Playwright's Festival. Ms. Tubert was twice a Resident Artist in Toni Morrison's Atelier at Princeton University where she collaborated with Joyce Carol Oates and poet Alicia Ostriker. At Dartmouth College, she was a visiting professor and directed a stage production of Jean Anouilh's "Time Remembered."
Ms. Tubert was a 2003 nominee to the Alan Schneider Director Award, and a recipient of the 1991-92 Theatre Communications Group/National Endowment for the Arts Director Fellowship which enabled her to assist master directors Hal Prince, Peter Sellars and Marshal Mason. She was also Assistant Director to Stanley Donen's Broadway musical, "The Red Shoes."
As a writer, Ms. Tubert co-conceived a modern ballet with Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre Co. and scripted a one-man show for the Core Ensemble. She has written two musicals for children, both of which were produced by Don Quijote Experimental Children's Theatre and her adaptation of a Spanish classic by Jacinto Benavente, titled THE ART OF SWINDLING, was produced by the Alliance Theatre. She has written journalistic pieces for the Village Voice, American Theatre Magazine, Mas Magazine. Ms. Tubert recently directed/wrote/co-produced her first short film, "Gypsy Girl", which premiered at the 2003 NY International Latino Film Festival, and has guest directed on the daytime drama, "The Guiding Light" and trailed on HBO's show, "Oz."
Ms. Tubert is a member of the Directors' Guild of America (DGA), the Society of Stage Directors & Choreographers (SSDC), the League of Professional Theatre Women, New York Theatre Workshop, and The Women's Project & Productions. She has also been Resident Director at New Dramatists and was profiled in Rebecca Daniel's book "Women Stage Directors Speak: Exploring the Influence of Gender on Their Work".
