Inspiration

Loserville, with music and lyrics by James Bourne and Elliot Davis, is based on the album Welcome to Loserville from the band Son of Dork, of which the composers are both members. The band was active from 2005 to 2008, and Welcome to Loserville was the only studio album for the group. Two of their songs ("Ticket Outta Loserville" and "Eddie's Song") hit the top ten on the UK Singles Chart. Since the band broke up in 2008, Bourne and Davis were inspired by the work of Green Day on the musical American Idiot, and decided to adapt their own album into a show.

Productions

Loserville premiered at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds in July 2012. A production later opened at the Garrick Theatre on the West End on October 7, 2012. Featuring choreography from theatre veteran Nick Winston, the production had a brief run closing on January 5, 2013.

Trivia

  • The original West End production of Loserville was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Musical in 2013. It was also nominated for a WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Musical, and Nick Winston received a BroadwayWorld West End nomination for Best Choreographer.
