Inspiration

Jack Spratt, V.C. is a musical with book and lyrics by Jeremy James Taylor (founding artistic director of the National Youth Music Theatre), additional book work by David Scott, and music by Peter Allwood. It tells the story of a boys' school set in Edwardian England before the First World War.

Productions

Jack Spratt, V.C. premiered with the National Youth Music Theatre, then known as Children's Music Theatre Limited, in 1985. It opened at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and received a Fringe First Award. The musical then went on a tour of the UK for the next year. In 1986, it was performed at the London International Opera Festival.

Trivia

  • The show was originally written for and performed with younger actors. However, according to the Production Notes in the script, "there is absolutely no reason, however, why the piece should not be done with older children, adults or a combination of all three."
