Show History

Inspiration

Fame Forever - Talent Spring Eternal (or Fame Forever for short), is a direct sequel to the musical Fame, which in turn is based on the movie of the same name. It was once again the conception of David De Silva (who is known affectionately as "Father Fame"); while Steve Margoshes returned to work on the music, newcomer Ben H. Winters was brought on to work the book and lyrics.

Fame Forever continues to follow the characters from the previous musical, though the action this time is set 20 years later. The Class of 1984 is celebrating their 20th high school reunion, while a new crop of students is making their way through LaGuardia High School.

Productions

Fame Forever first hit the stage at the Kings Theatre with the Apollo Players in Glasgow, Scotland in 2007. It had a twofold debut in America, with productions running nearly simultaneously at the Waterville Opera House in Maine and the The Players of Sarasota in Florida. The Congress Theatre in Eastbourne produced the English premiere of the musical some time after that. In 2013, Father Fame Foundation produced the first professional cast recording of Fame Forever. The musical will have its professional world premiere at the West End's Lyric Theatre on September 8, 2014, followed by a UK tour in 2015.

Critical Reaction

"Art is the DNA of Species memory" It seems apropos that Circle is kicking off its 61st season with the South East premiere of Fame Forever - Talent Spring Eternal - David De Silva's vibrant tribute to the endurance of talent as a driving force in our lives. With a cast of 30, directed by Tim Larson and choreographed by Kate Adams-Johnson, the production is a wonderful success, funny and touching, filled with fine musical numbers and an engaging plot which is not without its surprises. Fame Forever is a great evening of theatre, but beyond that it is , also, an anthem for our community of artists whose dreams are kept alive by the belief that talent does, in fact, spring eternal." - Jaz Dorsey, Dramaturg and Critic, Nashville

"Fame Forever touches every emotion. People in the audience were saying how much they liked the way all the lives of the characters were intertwined .. some saying they liked the fact that the storyline had more depth than Fame [... ] and some audience members were even moved to tears by the beautiful songs. All commented on the energy and excitement of it too! What a joy it has been to have this fantastic, vibrant show to work on - Thank you! Of all the shows I have directed, this has been the most enjoyable - I'm so sorry it's over - I'd like to do it all over again!" - Julie Storey, Director/Choreographer, Weymouth Operatic Society

"When I went looking for something to say about [Fame Forever], I couldn't think of a better phrase than 'Something Wonderful Right Away [... ] Grab your hat and call a cab, the tickets are looking like ice cream in July." - Morning Sentinel

"...a wonderful success, funny and touching, filled with fine musical numbers and an engaging plot which is not without its surprises [... ] Fame Forever is a great evening of theatre, but beyond that it is also an anthem for our community, a community of artists whose dreams are kept alive by the belief that talent does, in fact, spring eternal." - Jaz Dorsey
