Marc Blitzstein - Composer, lyricist, author.
Born 2 March 1905 - Philadelphia, PA, USA. Died 22 January 1964 - Martinique, France.

Piano soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra at fifteen, Blitzstein studied in Europe with Siloti, Scalero, Boulanger and Schoenberg, later disseminating his knowledge as a lecturer and tutor at American colleges. He has written many film scores and classical works, plus background music for Broadway plays, but was best known initially for his left-wing The Cradle Will Rock, and later for his translation of the Brecht text of Kurt Weill's Dreigroschenoper. He is also known for the musical shows: The Cradle Will Rock, No For An Answer, Regina, The Threepenny Opera & Juno.
