A welcome message from our Managing Director

A welcome message from our Managing Director

By Seán Gray on December 16, 2016
Welcome to Music Theatre International (Europe), home of musical theatre for regional theatres, independent touring producers, opera companies, summer theatres, fringe theatre, amateur, youth and school theatre in Britain and for all non-replica theatre across Europe ("non-replica" simply means productions that are not replicas of original Broadway or West End productions; in other words, your own new and completely original productions).

Here you will find all of the information you need to get to know all of the musicals in the catalogues of Music Theatre International and Josef Weinberger Ltd., or those that you don't yet know (many of these landmark works you already know and love!); to request reading copies and to apply for a licence to perform them and order all of the music and resources we provide to enable you to create, rehearse and perform a successful production.

For many years, our agent Josef Weinberger Ltd. represented us in Britain and much of Europe. Now we are joining with Weinberger to establish our own Europe office at their Mortimer Street base in London, just north of Theatreland. We are very happy that all of the wonderful staff you have worked with over the years are remaining with us and we intend to retain the spirit and philosophy of Weinberger and bring to it the enthusiasm and experience of MTI, and to build on both the catalogue with many wonderful new musicals and our evangelising of the gospel of musical theatre to new people and places.

Musical theatre brings happiness to audiences, often educates and moves, teaches us about other lives, other places, other times. For you, the makers of musical theatre, we know and understand the fulfilment, pride and sheer joy that creating a production can bring throughout the all-consuming process. What it means to tell a meaningful or funny story to an audience, which may include family and friends. Everything you learn from working with a team, from finding your own place and purpose within that team, making friends, learning about the art of theatre, the complex combination of elements that must all work in harmony to make a musical.

We are with you on your journey. We are here to help you to learn, to help you decide, to tell you what you need to do, to help you perform, and to make sure our authors' work is performed with respect and that they are fairly paid for their work when it is performed.

So, here are our musicals. We are very proud of them all, and of all of the writers and composers who wrote them. Please "shop around", look for news of productions happening (and support them if you can), give us feedback and if you already know what you are looking for and are ready to go ahead, step right up!
